Jaipur, the Vibrant City
Jaipur, the capital city of the northern Indian state of Rajasthan. It is one of the most vibrant and colourful cities in India. It is famous for its colourful culture, forts, palaces and lakes. The city basks in the glory of a rich and eventful past.
The city of Jaipur symbolizes the genius of Sawai Jai Singh. It got its name from its founder Maharaja Jai Singh II, the great warrior and astronomer, who ruled between 1693 and 1743. Jai Singh's lineage can be traced back to the Kucchwaha Rajput clan who came to power in the 12th Century. It marked a renaissance of the traditional town planning and architecture of India.
Despite its traditional layout, Jaipur is quite modern. This capital city of the State of Rajasthan is not only beautiful but also a reprisentative of Indian culture. It has as identity of its own which has been built up by the confluence of knowledge, science and art. It symbolizes those aesthetic values, which made our lives rich. Sawai Jai Singh had a good knowledge of architecture. It was because of this that he made dramatic improvements in this old capital of Kachhawas. New buildings were constructed while the old ones were renovated and re-decorated. He started the construction of Chandra Mahal and Jai Niwas Garden at the site of his new capital. On 18th November 1727, the foundation stone of the new capital Jaipur was laid after performing religious rituals.
Jaipur is situated on a rectangular piece of land with longer boundaries in north-east and shorter ones in the south-west.
